"General Feeding Schedule"

The following feeding schedule is a general guideline to use to achieve and maintain top form in racing pigeons.  It is strictly for young bird and old bird racing pigeons.  The feeding schedule does not necessarily pertain to breeders, singles, or other pigeons that are not raced.  Regarding the amount of grain to feed the racers, slowly feed by the racers hand until about 1/3 of the race team goes to drink.  Measure the amount of grain that was fed.  The next morning, feed 1/3 of the amount of measured grain from the feeding the night before. As the week progresses, the race team show slowly increase the amount of feed that they will consume during the afternoon feeding and exercise with more zeal around the loft during the day.  The feeding schedule will cause the race team's form to peak on race day.  Because of the exertion during a race, the race team will consume less feed the day after the race; but then will slowly eat more grain and exercise harder over the course of the week until they once again attain peak form for the next race.
